Welcome to Anafalz!

February 7, 2013

Welcome to Anafalz! The idea for this blog has come from conversations over the past eight months with a couple of good friends. We have been emailing articles, news stories and book reviews back and forth and holding conversations about them over email. At one point we came to realize the kind of things we were talking about and hashing out would be beneficial to find a venue to put them out there for others to join the conversation. So, that is the genesis of this project.

What’s with the name Anafalz you ask? Anafalz is the Old High German word for anvil. So often we harden our minds to new ideas and thoughts and no longer listen to others, we close them off. So I chose Anafalz, or anvil, as it is a tool used in the softening and shaping of hardened steel. The interesting thing is, after the steel has been worked on an anvil, it’s still steel.  It does not change what it is, just what it looks like.

Over time you will find articles on books, current events, theology, ethics, music and movies. Hopefully this will stimulate conversation about these things and how they intersect faith. Through this process, it would be my hope we are stretched and more grace will be shared from those who follow Christ.

The first series you will see here will be one on war and how Christians view and behave in it. This will include some theological ideas, the effects of war and will also address some of the current world events.

Again, welcome to Anafalz!

You know I dig this stuff. I’m ready for conversations, debates, ideas, hypotheses, etc. that transform and empower the work of ministry and understanding of God’s involvement with humanity.
