Love Will Be At The Finish Line

April 15, 2013

For the second week in a row evil has reared its ugly head in America. A nation is left wondering what happened and the authorities have started the manhunt. The affected area will be shut down until the authorities complete their evidence gathering. Fear has entered the city of Boston, and many will take that fear home with them. A day intended for fun and celebration ended up being filled with sorrow and fear.

There are heroes in the Boston area. Not just military troops and first responders, but also many civilians who ran towards the danger to assist their fellow human beings. Regardless of faith, they were ready to put themselves in danger to assist their fellow-man. They showed their love for one another by risking themselves.

How do we handle this as the church? Do we join in the national anger and seek vengeance upon the perpetrators? Do we sit on our hands and do nothing? No. We are a people who are called to love one another. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” John 13:34 (ESV) Love drives out hate and fear. Love lifts others up.

Let this awful event turn you back towards love. Tell those who need to hear it that you love them. Help someone change a tire. Pay for a meal. Sit down and talk out the troubles you have with someone. Look to share God’s love this day and honor those who lost their lives and those who risked their lives. Honor God with sharing the love He gave to you with others!
