Faith or Works?

May 9, 2013

“So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2:17 (ESV)

Rich Mullins had a song that said, “faith without works is like a screen door on a submarine.” A more perfect illustration for James 2:17 cannot be said. The issue of faith and works is an ongoing debate. Today, may I briefly and simply challenge you with this?

Many good people in the world do good works without having a living faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. These are “good” people who are trying to make the world a better place. Yet, if you are a Christian and trust in Jesus for eternal life, a lack of good works makes this profession of faith suspect.

If you have the love of Christ in you, you have inherited the love of others through Christ. Consequently good works issue forth from this love. Go out and share that love with someone today!

Even a non-christian can spot a christian based on his or her actions or works. Makes me think that Christ might have been on to something there. Hmmmm…..

    • David,
Thank you for your comment. As we study the life of Jesus we see Him exhibiting love to those around Him. Doing works with Christ’s love is more powerful than many think.
