Military Moral Crisis

June 5, 2013

The United States Military is in the middle of one of the worst moral crisis it has seen in the last twenty years. The situation started to rear its ugly head at Lackland Air Force Base where the Air Force conducts its basic training and has reached to the highest levels of leadership. The issue is sexual assault, otherwise known as rape. These rapes have been perpetrated by people who were entrusted to them. Those who were instructed to train and protect became the abusers – became rapists. Then they used the power of their positional authority to cover their crimes. The lid is off the proverbial pressure cooker and victims are coming forth at scary numbers.

All this is being done while the Department of Defense (DoD) is looking to limit the rights of people of faith while serving their country. What an oxymoronic situation! Our elected officials phones, emails, Twitter accounts, and mail boxes should be filled with letters of outrage. They must be! The DoD is trying to remove the power of faith from the service in a time when morals are needed. Why not tap into this faith community in the service to work on the solution, to create a better way? There must be a better way to prevent and oversee this process.

This is not just a woman’s issue. This is an American issue. This is a Christian issue. These young women have come forward to protect our nation so we may sleep well at night, safe here in America. Just as they have gone, and continue, to do battle for us, it is our turn to defend our defenders from the wolves in sheep’s clothing.
