I Want More! I Want More!

June 20, 2013

If you have not seen this funny commercial, take a quick thirty seconds to watch it before moving on to the rest of this post.

How often is that you? I know it is me. The question is: What is it we want more of? If we want more Jesus – that is a good thing. If we want more possessions – not such a good thing. The world is telling us the one with the most toys in the end is the winner. They are, or will be, the happiest a person can be. The commercials sell us that idea. Think about car commercials. One month they sell you a truck with the absolute best deal. Two weeks later they are telling you the truck you just bought is inferior to the one that is now on the lot. They are selling you newer, bigger, better – they are selling you “more.”

Let go of things. Look around your house and find what you are not using and have a garage sale or donate to a shelter. Give stuff away to people you know need a hand. Give up more and get less. This selfless attitude will lighten your load. The young, rich ruler just could not handle giving his possessions away. Can you?

  1. that commercial makes me laugh. And this post reminds me of the book”When you give a moose a cookie…” Actually, Nancy Ray from Nancy Ray Photography recently started something called the Contentment Challenge. Its totally up this post’s alley!

    • These commercials in general crack me up. No idea how the guy keeps a straight face. I spent so much time laughing at it I missed the deeper message for a long time. Glad I found it!
