Anniversary Wishes

July 2, 2013

Today is a wonderful day. It is my eighth anniversary. It gave me a moment to reflect on why this has worked for eight years, and why I am confident we will have many more together. I have a few ideas and hope you entertain me a moment while I share them with you.

We let the small things be the small things – in other words, we don’t make mountains out of mole hills. There are times when our first reaction is a little overblown, but we rapidly settle back to earth and evaluate the situation and make decisions from them.

We deal with disagreements quickly. We sure don’t sweep them under the rug. We give them their due time. We shut the television off (even if the Rangers are playing) and face each other while we discuss the issue. That brings our focus to each other and allows us to read each other’s body language while we talk. We try not to argue at the table or bedroom as it does not deserve to defile either.

We still date each other. What’s that mean? We go out and eat together. We share hobbies. We go on day trips and celebrate milestones. We enjoy baseball and hockey together. Sweet cards tucked away left to surprise my wife when I travel. We hold hands and I open doors for her. Our marriage is a continuous date. Everyday my goal is to win her over again.

We pray together, read together, and worship together.

We choose to love each other each day. Our moods do not drive our love for each other, nor does any outside influences.

Other men may argue with me, but I know I am the luckiest man in the world. Eight years are just a drop in the bucket of a lifetime. Each day is a gift and a blessing to share with her.

I pray some of the things I listed above may help you add many years to your marriages.

Sarah, happy anniversary! May God bless us with many more!

  1. Happy Anniversary!

    • Thank you very much! We spent the day at the Fort Worth, TX Cabella’s store and then went to the Texas Rangers game in the ever. Made our way back to Abilene today. Just a wonderful couple of days.
