Are You Seeing God in Your City?

July 12, 2013

Have you seen God in your city this week? Does your city seem to be under a cloud of darkness with death, poverty, and crime abound? Blue Tree was in Thailand when they wrote this song and they performed it in a bar where the human sex trade was taking place. All I can say is what a pit! They were in a modern-day fiery pit. Spiritual death was everywhere around them. They had every reason to feel despair looking into the darkness that surrounded them.

Instead, they turned to God in worship. They declared God to be over that city despite the darkness and despair. No matter how bad the city you live in is, proclaim God to be the God over your city. If you are living in Afghanistan, declare God over your city or base. If you are in Detroit where crime is high and so is the unemployment rate, declare God over your city. As followers of Jesus, we need to remember God is a God of miracles. Nothing is too big for Him. No city is too far gone for Him to resurrect.

I propose we all join together and proclaim God is the God of our cities and join in prayer for each other’s cities. So, which city would you like us to pray for this weekend?

  1. I loved this song from the moment I heard it. The idea of “blue tree” name symbolism and this song together gives me chills. so many prayers for so many cities. But most of all: that our cities would see the love of Christ in us as Christians. Not the legalities, not the humanity that creates hate but the true love of Christ that is supposed to shine through us.

    • To listen to this song as your drive through your city is very convicting. You look at your area with fresh eyes, hopefully Christ’s eyes. It sure is not a comfortable song to listen to when you allow it to speak to you.
