Gluttony & Overindulgence

November 26, 2013

We are entering a week known for gluttony and overindulgence. It starts by stuffing ourselves on Thanksgiving and follows up the next day by an overindulging shopping spree in the name of Christmas. For many, this shopping spree will be paid for over the next half-year and then they prepare to do it again. There is a better way.

This week, think about those in need. There are many who are suffering. While we overeat, they will be wondering if they will eat. While we overspend, they will wonder if they can get money for a loaf of bread and bologna. You and your church can make a difference. Buy a meal for someone in need. Buy blankets for homeless. Buy socks and pass them out to homeless. And spend some time talking to the needy and homeless. Let them know they are cared for and they are important people.

The video who stirred these thoughts was made by some individuals from The Mission Abilene in Abilene, Texas. Their church has a many homeless people who attend services there. As they looked around their church they realized they saw a problem. They made this video to encourage others to do something greater this holiday season. Take a moment and watch this video, and then pass it along. Make a difference!
