Mary, An Important Part of Christmas

December 20, 2013

Very often we fail to look at Christmas from Mary’s point of view. We fail to put ourselves in that culture and consider the implications of her obedience. She was in a culture that would either kill her or make her an outcast, which was as good as a death sentence. There were no hospitals for childbirth and betrothal could happen as young as 13 years old. This was a scary time for her. Despite being obedient to God, there was great risk to her. I wonder what she was thinking during her pregnancy. I wonder if she really understood the depth of the future of her son.

These wonderings of mine lead me to really enjoy Mark Lowery’s version of “Mary Did You Know.” Take a moment and watch the video. Spend today really looking at the depth of Mary’s commitment.
