We Three Kings

December 27, 2013

If I could pass a law having to do with nativities, I would ban them from having the three wise men included. The wise men were not there the night Jesus was born. It took them a couple of years to get there. Yet, we distort the story every year and stick those gift bearers next to the shepherds and baby Jesus.

Why am I so worked up about this? Because followers of Jesus have been in a fuss for a few years about this supposed, “War on Christmas.” The problem is that we are no longer even familiar with the Scriptural accounts of the birth. Our war on Christmas should be inside the church. This year we should be educating ourselves on our beliefs and traditions. If we learn more about our own faith, we can earn the right to take it out into culture next Christmas.

Today I leave you with Hillsong’s version of “We Three Kings.”

Nice song but it suggest there were 3 wise men .No where in the bible does it tell us exactly how many wise men there were.

    • I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I do understand your point. I included that particular song because it slightly fit the topic, it is popular, and set up my post for the next Monday (https://anafalz.wordpress.com/2013/12/30/they-came-to-worship/) where I address the issue of things that come from tradition and not Scripture or other reliable historical sources.

I would encourage you taking a look at that post and let me know what you think!
